How have we reached THAT time of year? So many people seem to be putting up their decorations early, but I haven’t yet. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas, but I feel I peak too early on the excitement level if they go up before 1st December. One of my favourite things about Christmas is the gift buying and possibly even more than that, the wrapping!
When I worked for Jo Malone, I got taught the ribboning of boxes and bows properly and once spent a week in the Sloane Square store just before Christmas doing the all the wrapping at the till, heaven for me! Nowadays, I usually choose a wrapping ‘theme’ each year and love spending an afternoon with one of my favourite Christmas films on, (Love Actually, The Holiday, Elf and Miracle of 34th Street since you ask,) a cup of tea, and surrounded in sellotape, labels and bows – pure joy.
So, what about the actual gifts? I keep a list on my phone for each year of ideas of things to buy people and then what I actually get them so I don’t repeat too much. This is my round up of things for women mostly, that I think would be lovely to receive and nothing is over £40.
Being Cosy At Home
I adore White Company candles; I honestly think they’re the best value. They burn a long time and the scent really lasts. The Winter one just encapsulates Christmas for me.
Beautiful glassware is always gratefully received and these coupes from cool interiors store Rockett St George look gorgeous and are very reasonable.
I think one, luxury beauty product that you wouldn’t buy yourself makes such a nice gift. Body wash and shower gel is quite safe and feels decadent. Jo Malone is one of the best.
Favoured Instagram brand Drunk Elephant have beautiful products and this creamy body wash will make your bathroom shlefie look great.
The Queen (of skincare,) herself, Caroline Hirons, released this beautiful hardback book this year which really is all you need to know. No nonsense and clear, a must for a beauty lover.
I read this on holiday in Mexico in January this year, (Oh my God, I miss travel!) and have bought it for a few friends. It’s almost like therapy, letting go of perfectionism and embracing mistakes, it really hit home for me.
Compiled by Parisian media darlings including Caroline De Maigret, this is a fun read for anyone coveting the stylish nonchalance the French are so famous for.
The owner of the beauty brand Rodial, was once fired from a job. This interesting read reveals how she created her own business from the ground up.
Monogrammed or Personalised
Azurina offer monogramming on all their products and use real leather. This is a perfect stocking filler or secret santa.
Anthropologie have some lovely, monogrammed products, I have this coaster and there is also a matching mug.
These alphabet initialled boxes are really cute and perfect for earrings or for packing jewellery for a weekend away.
These beautiful wash bags are a double whammy, choose your horoscope sign and you can also get them monogrammed as well.
Fancy Lip Balms
One of the best make-up artists in the world, Pat McGrath, has her own beauty range and has packed this with ingredients to replenish the lips. The excellent packaging is a bonus.
These are really fun and come in lots of ‘flavours‘ with so many great ones to choose from. Great for fussy teens and tweens as well.
I think a lovely bottle of champagne, or a really nice bottle of spirit like Belvedere or Hendricks makes a great present. Keep a look out as most of the supermarkets do deals just before the big day.
A chocolate lovers dream, definitely not for self-purchase, but about as luxury as sweet things get. The Sea Salt and Caramel are divine.
If you’re dairy free like I am, it’s nice to be able to have a treat that won’t make you ill. Dirty Cow chocolate looks amazing, the do a half dozen bar box for £25 and have some great flavours.
This range is really fun and comes in a variety of sets, such as Gin Obsessed and Night In, the Party Selection is my personal favourite.
Subscriptions, The Gift That Keeps Giving
I love having fresh flowers at home and £3 roses from Tesco is usually my bag. A monthly subscription of them though is such a treat for someone and Arena flowers start at £15 a month.
Anyone who knows me knows that this gift is not for me, (I hate cheese!) but this is about other people and if you’re into it, a cheese subscription is a pretty cool gift.
A magazine subscription is a great thing to buy someone at Christmas as it lasts all year and I have been the grateful receiver of many. Vogue, Red, Elle and Living ETC are my personal favourites, but you can pick anything.
I bought this for a friend’s birthday who loves sweets, but hates chocolate, winner. Sweets in the City offer a monthly subscription in letter box friendly packages.
I could have actually gone on longer, but I fear there would be no end! I hope this is helpful and you enjoy your Christmas shopping this year.
