Skincare doesn’t stop at the neck! Attention must also be paid to the body to have smooth, nourished and touchable skin. My skin is often very dry on my body, almost eczema prone in places, so scrubs, creams and oils have always been my friend. I use cream every single day, exfoliate a couple of times a week and do the full ‘blitz’ below about once a week. Once you get into a habit, this routine doesn’t take as long as you think it will, read on for products I’m loving at the moment, for skin literally smooth as a baby’s bum.
Scrubs
The basics – first body care step for me, to exfoliate. You can obviously be a lot harsher and rougher on your body than your face. I do try and get into a dry body brushing habit but tend to go in and out of it. There is so much evidence that this is great for your circulation, lymphatic drainage and appearance of cellulite that I should be better at it. So, in fact this week I am going to commit to doing it every day! Lots of places have good body brushes, I like the Body Shop ones in particular.
The Sanctuary Scrubs
I really love a lot of The Sanctuary body products and the scrubs are particularly good. The foaming one I’ve featured before and is great pre fake tan. For a more luxurious scrub, I like both the Salt scrub and the Hot Sugar scrub. The salt one has a lot of oil and feels very nourishing. The sugar scrub warms on your skin which is such a lovely feeling. Both leave your limbs incredibly soft.
Beauty Pie Soul Providers Scrub
I adore this newish scrub from Beauty Pie. The zingy grapefruit scent with apricot and evening primrose oils is a perfect pick-me-up in a morning shower.
Ameliorate Scrub
If you suffer from Keratosis pilaris, those annoying little red bumps that tend to appear on the upper arms, this exfoliator is the bollocks. A creamy formula, you rub it on dry skin, leave for a few minutes and then rinse in the shower or bath, it really gets rid of them and them keeps them at bay if you use once a week or fortnight.
Oils
Straight out the bath or shower, when your skin is still slightly damp, I love to work in a body oil. This I really only do in the evening or if I have some time as it needs a while to soak in, but is so good for the skin. Palmers Coconut oil is a classic and relatively cheap, but oh the smell. Coconut is one of my favourite scents, so this is amazing. The Neutrogena sesame oil is also fantastic, but Boots and Superdrug seem to have discontinued it, though I have found it on Amazon. For a real treat, the Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil smells divine, of sweet almonds. It solidifies at a cooler temperature, so you just need to warm the bottle in water before applying.
Creams and Lotions
Finally, and yes, on top of an oil, I apply a cream to seal it all in and really nourish. As I have dry skin I much prefer cream, a lotion doesn’t really cut it for me, but a lot of people like a lighter texture. Again, I’ve spoken of my love of this Vaseline body butter before, but the smell is gorgeous, it’s incredibly hydrating and most importantly sinks in very quickly. As a lotion, this one is highly recommended by the Queen herself, HRH Caroline Hirons which in her words, ‘feels like a lotion, acts like a butter’ so there you go. Finally, a newer product and one I was loving for the gym, (when I showered at the gym pre Covid,) The Sanctuary Wet Skin. This is quite genius, you apply to wet skin and massage in, then dry your skin with a towel as normal, great when you are a little short of time and somehow magically works!
So that’s the body low down. How often do you scrub and cream? Which products do you love? Let me know.
