I have had many years in my life without much money, particularly when I was dancing, and doing many other jobs alongside it, like waitressing, working for Estée Lauder and doing promotional work to pay the rent! We are currently all feeling the pinch one way or another, whether furloughed, taking a pay cut, or just living with general uncertainty. I also don’t believe you necessarily have to spend a fortune to get a good beauty product. So here, in no particular order, is my compilation of the best all round skincare and hair care under a tenner.

1 – John Frieda – all under £10
This is a slight cheat as it’s a range, rather than one product, but all under £10. I have been loyal to John Frieda hair care forever. I really think for the price, the ingenuity and quality of their products is fantastic and my hair responds really well to them. I love the Luxurious Volume Root Booster Blow Dry Lotion it’s the best volumising spray I’ve tried. Don’t be put off by it being called a ‘lotion’, it’s in a spray bottle and is light and non-sticky, I spray it in the top section of my hair and it really helps to lift it. The Secret Agent Touch Up Cream is lovely for a smoothing finish and I also sometimes use on wet hair to style. The Weightless Wonder Featherlight Smoothing Cream (their products have the longest names!) is my newest discovery, for my wavy, almost curly hair, this is great whether wearing it natural, or straightening it. I love the shampoos and conditioners as well. The Sheer Blonde range is excellent, (they obviously do brunette and red head ones as well,) and I love the Full Repair range.
2 – Vaseline Coco Radiant Body Butter £5.99
This butter is amazing. My dry, almost eczema prone skin, literally drinks this in. It smells fantastic and most importantly, sinks in incredibly quickly so you don’t have to delay getting dressed for too long. Hard to find though, a lot of Boots have stopped carrying it, Superdrug is the best bet.
3 – Sanctuary Foaming Scrub £7.00
I’m a big fan of Sanctuary body products, (the salt scrub and warming sugar scrub are lovely, but don’t make this list as over £10). The foaming scrub though is perfect pre fake tan as there’s no oil in it. I use with a stiff body brush, as the name suggests it lathers really well and leaves your skin super soft and properly prepped.
4 – Neutrogena Hydra Boost Gel Cleanser Currently on offer at £3.99
I’ve used this face wash since it launched about a year ago. Although my skin is dry, I love the feeling of a wash in the morning and this one has hyaluronic acid in to keep you hydrated so it doesn’t strip the skin, perfect for the summer.
5 – Garnier Micellar Water From £1.99
I think we all know the importance of a double cleanse at night by now. I have been doing it since a Jo Malone facialist told me to over 20 years ago and it definitely makes a difference. This is my first cleanse to take my makeup off, before I properly clean my skin. It’s gentle and doesn’t sting my eyes.
6 – No 7 Eye Makeup Remover £8.50
If I’m wearing waterproof mascara, this one is a must. It’s a two phase with oil and a very good dupe for the Lancôme one, but obviously much cheaper. Boots often do the No.7 £5 voucher as well which makes this an absolute steal.
7 – Aldi Lacura Caviar Night Cream £6.99
A newer addition to my regime, this is an obvious La Prairie dupe, but for £6.99 I don’t think you can beat it. I would much rather spend my cash on a serum, (more powerful concentrated ingredients,) so a moisturiser really just needs to hydrate. This is quite light, but feels nourishing and my go to when I need to save a bit. (It currently says ‘unavailable’ on their website, I hope because it’s out of stock, otherwise it will sadly be added to this round up!)
8 – Alex Steinherr Primark Range All under £5
Again a slight cheat as a range, but this is really great and was so hard to get hold of when it came out, nothing is over £5!! Not available online and not in all Primark stores, but they usually have stock in the Tottenham Court Road shop. My favourite products are the Plump & Glow Mask, £3, the Maximum Moisture Cream, £5, (makes a lovely night cream,) and the Sleep Spa Overnight Lip Mask £4, which I actually wear in the day as it’s a pink tinted balm.
9 – Flexitol Hard Skin & Callus Balm From £3.39
I have never had a pedicure. Nope, never. I have a thing about feet and hate anyone touching them. As a result I have always done my own so have tried a lot of foot care products. This balm is brilliant, it’s intensive, really as it says, it’s for calluses, but I use over my whole foot after exfoliating, then pop some socks on and let it do its magic. Super soft feet will be yours.
10 – Glossier Dotcom Balm £10
I think at £10 dead on, this can make it. I love these balms, there are so many different ‘flavours’ now and some are tinted, but my favourite is coconut. They make great presents or a nice treat for yourself and come in the cute pink bags which are great for storing things in when travelling.
What are your favourites? Have I missed any good ones? Let me know.
